The Australian National Curriculum Draft has been open to public viewing online for a while now. I've only just skimmed through it.
For the non-Australians on this here F-List, Australia has six states and two territories. Each of those has their own school curriculum, and this makes life difficult for those who travel between them. Generally, a Year 7 student who moves to another state/territory has to drop one year because of the inconsistencies between curricula.
Hopefully, this is all about to change with this national curriculum. Four main streams - English, Mathematics, History and Science - and rough outcomes for Pre-School to Year 10. I assume for Year 11 and 12, the current state-based curriculum will continue.
The website (http://www.australiancurriculum.edu.au/) has the outlines of these outcomes for the four streams. I took a quick browse, and it is both brilliant and infuriating.

Well, they're not everything but goddamn are they important. Academia seemed to come naturally to me, and only since my metamorphosis (of sorts) into a kinda-normal person around Year 5 have I made friends really easily and managed to balance hyperperfectionism and actual healthy relationships.
I actually do work in class - shock horror - and I only slack off near the end of a lesson if I'm really, really tired and WTF.
I'm currently waiting for my Year 12 Music results to come through, closer to Christmas. I hope I got 20/20 - known as a Merit -

My love affair with fanfiction began in late 2006 when I delved into the Soul Calibur fandom. Then I moved to Final Fantasy X, then Avatar, then FFXII, then KH, then other fandoms like House and Glee.
Fan fiction is immensely fun. You can make friends with an entire legion of people, united by one medium - be it a game or TV show or book. I think I actually enjoy the inter-fandom interaction more than the writing.
Fanfiction and AMVs and fanart and icons blend seamlessly into a mesh of awesome, and to exclude one would be unfair.

Final Fantasy is by far the greatest series of RPGs, ever. I don't want to hear anyone try and argue Xenosaga or Fallout or anything else, FF trumps them all. The superb plots. The revolutionary graphics. The brilliant gameplay. The fabulous designs and visuals. There is no substitute.

Well, Kingdom Hearts deserves second place. Who knew that Disney and Final Fantasy could blend so well? Sure, it's a bit sappy in some parts, especially in KH2, but nobody ever actually hated playing anything from Kingdom Hearts. It's got something for everyone - Disney magic, bishounen, spiky hair, FF characters, yaoi, yuri, het, and everything in between. No wonder why it's such an incredibly large and convoluted fandom.

Bad news:
In order that I get to 50,000 words for NaNo, I'll have to write more than 3,000 words a day. Not going to happen. Thus, I am now aiming for 30,000 - double what I have now. I'm not going to finish (not even close) but NaNo will be a foot in the proverbial door.

Bouncing off the walls
For a school project (my FF and KH musical arrangements, which you might have seen on ff_press or kh_press in recent weeks), I'm making a short video for my analysis. Do you have any idea how boring explaining modulations are? Like, seriously? I'd rather discuss knitting patterns.
What I'd like to have in the video is some pictures of certain FFX media, and footage from the game itself.
Specifically, if anyone could get me the following, I would be forever grateful and I will make some kind of gift in return, either fic or music.
1. Good quality, large, pictures of the Squaresoft and Square-Enix logos, the three composers of the FFX soundtrack (Uematsu, Hamauzu, Nakano), the soundtrack cover itself, and the cover of the game and any relevant promotional art for the game
2. Footage of the battle with S. Omnis showing the multi-elemental attacks the enemy offers, and also its Ultima spell, while the whole party retaliates with flashy overdrives and summons. The post-battle scene would also be nice
3. Footage of any and all high-res CGI movies within the game, eg. entering Bevelle by skating on cables, the romantic scene in Macalania Woods, any scenes with Sin
4. Any of this either emailed to me (email's on my profile page) or appropriate links in a comment to this post
I'm away on holiday this coming week so I won't be able to access my LJ until Saturday 4th October, but the entire project is due only four weeks after that.

Okay, so life's not too bad ATM.
Today I (as well as, IDK, 1/5 of the entire school (!!!)) received an academic award or six... "Excellence Award" for high level of A's (All subjects! EVEN CHEMISTRY! :D :D :D) and I topped the year in music (...again. Now that I've left the Yr11 class, my friend Patrick's like, "Maybe now I have a chance." Aha. Aha. No. Not unless your fingers magically shrink so you can actually play your clarinet properly. Fricking Gigantor.)
On Monday I started learning another piece for piano - Cat and Mouse by Aaron Copland. It's brilliant! Atonality has never sounded so frantic. It's very, very difficult - at speed you'll miss the notes half the time.
Ficwriting is solely focused on the gift for ff_exchange. Stress ch8 is sitting in the back of my mind. Might actually make a community for my writings so they're better organised or something.
Um, about my arrangements. I only require ten minutes for my actual course, and I'll probably finish that - and more - well before end of the year. So, if anyone wants me to arrange/compose a piece of music, I'd be happy to oblige! Consider it a very early Christmas present. ATM I'm working on refining Dearly Beloved and Jenova ABSOLUTE. Seymour Battle (my major composition) is complete...ish. And my last piece will be To Zanarkand, which is also done. ff_kh_arrange will be suitably updated as I go.
I bought House season 2, and it's probably my favourite season (home to such brilliant episodes as Euphoria pt1 and pt2, Forever, The Mistake and Sleeping Dogs Lie). There are so many House/Wilson moments and House-->Cuddy moments that it makes me want to join fandom.

-PIANO ASSIGNMENT; write part three by Monday, part four by Thursday, part five by Monday following, part six by Thursday following, finishing writing up some exercises on note values, rest values, clefs, time signatures, sharps, key signatures, symbols, etc, etc, etc, etc ad nauseum, have someone proofread and try it out before exams
Let's take the case of Miss M. (Obviously I'm not going to tell you her real name for privacy reasons.) She was all well and good until her father lost his job; her friends turned on her; her boyfriend (an old friend of mine, Mr. A) became distant; and there's the possibility she might have to move interstate for Year 12. Lately she's been hanging around me a lot. I don't mind at all - we can go to the music centre and belt out Whitney Houston while I grapple with augmented chords on the piano - but I wonder what Mr. A thinks about our ZOMGFAST friendship. As well as everyone else. It's not like I care - as far as I'm concerned anyone who makes up rumours can DIAF - but I don't plan on getting anything more than platonic. Kinsey-5, everyone. Kinsey-5.
Now, the case of Miss C. She's in my music class, a soprano singer as well as a newbie guitarist. She's the only other person in my music class of eleven people to be doing the MASSIVE GINORMOUS PROJECT instead of theory. Her idea was to write songs. Now, the thing is, she doesn't know how to use the computer software, our music teacher - who used to be all cool and laidback until he took the Department Head position and since became a manipulative, aloof, emotionless ass - isn't helping one bit, and she's been forced to do x amount of work, and in the process, asking me to help. I'm like, "Sure thing, Miss C, I'd be glad to!" and then I luck out on my MASSIVE GINORMOUS PROJECT.
Finally, the case of me. I'm steadily but surely breaking down. I'm not sleeping right, I'm rather sick, I'm shouting at everyone, my playing's declined, and I just wonder if I'm going to make it to exams with good marks or not. Not to mention my ficwriting has rushed to a screeching halt, which is leaving massive skidmarks on my brain.
I need good KH fic. Please to be reccing some that isn't 1000 words or less? I'm in need of a massive adventure fic.

Time taken: Approximately 20 hours. This was a whore to work on. The drums never worked until just now, when I rewrote the entire thing and corrected the hi-hats. Sibelius likes to leave out the 3rd beat in every bar for some reason. *shakes fist* Also, I had to manually correct the dynamic balance in Mixer as well as adding dynamic markings.
Reflections:
1. Owing to the nature of the original, there is no ending. It just finishes. IRL it would repeat infinitely to fade out but Sibelius doesn't have that option in playback.
2. Once again, I hate the overdrive guitar. It sounds so inconsistent in tone. The distortion guitar, however, is fabulous. Excellent for chordal accompaniment or high melody.
3. D'you think a rock guitarist knows what accompagnamento means?
4. I had help from a MIDI file I found on the intarwebs. I didn't copypaste. Much. X3 No seriously, I only used it for the opening and for a template on which I created the drum line.
